Overview of Location and Area
Tanjung Kucur is a quiet, rural point on East Java’s southern coast, tucked into a scenic bay surrounded by jungle and farmland. It sits off the beaten path between Banyuwangi and Blitar — far from the surf infrastructure of G-Land or Pacitan. You won’t find camps or crowds here — just empty coastline, reef, and open ocean.
About Tanjung Kucur
This is a right-hand point setup that runs along a rocky headland and bends into a sandy bay. It only starts working on a solid south to southwest swell, but when it does, it can deliver long, smooth walls — ideal for longboarders and mid-length cruisers. There’s a clean entry section with a soft takeoff, followed by long carve sections and the odd shoulder-high lip to hit if the swell’s angled just right.
It’s not a heavy wave, and there’s usually a channel to paddle out, making it a great option for intermediate surfers or anyone looking to get away from the heavy reef setups nearby.
Best Conditions for Tanjung Kucur
Needs 5–8 ft+ of solid S to SW swell to break properly
Mid to high tide gives best shape and softens the reef
East to northeast winds clean it up — best in the dry season (May–Sept)
Not a daily driver — more of a go-when-it’s-on mission
Getting in and out at Tanjung Kucur
Access is by dirt track or walking trail through the bush — depending on swell and tide, you can paddle out from the beach or walk out along the rocks. The reef is mostly flat and forgiving, but on lower tides, you’ll want to watch your feet. Bring reef booties if you’re not used to walking on Indo coral.
Getting to Tanjung Kucur
Fly into Surabaya, then drive south through Banyuwangi or Jember. Expect a long, unmarked drive — GPS and offline maps help, but local intel is best. No signs, no shops, no guides. Bring everything: board, wax, water, snacks, first aid, backup fin key — you’re on your own.
Closest town is still hours away, so this one’s best for a day trip recon or an overnight car camp mission.
Hazards to Look Out For
Long hike or sketchy dirt road access
No medical access, no cell signal
Fishermen may be present — keep a respectful distance
Reef is relatively mellow but still Indo — don’t get lazy on timing
Zero surf crowd — you’ll be the only one out
