Overview of Location and Area
Batukaras is a quiet fishing village tucked into a sheltered bay on the south coast of West Java, about 30 minutes west of Pangandaran. The vibe is super chilled, with surf homestays, warungs, and families lining the beach. It’s a great place to relax and surf without the intensity of Bali or Java’s more powerful setups.
About Batukaras Point
Batukaras Point is a long, mellow right-hand point break wrapping around a small headland into a deep, sandy bay. The wave is soft and forgiving, ideal for longboards, foamies, and mid-lengths. It breaks slow and clean, with rides up to 200+ meters on the right day.
There’s a takeoff zone near the point with easy paddling and a user-friendly shoulder. The inside section runs gently into deeper water, making it perfect for beginners learning to trim and intermediates working on positioning. On bigger days, experienced longboarders can trim and glide the whole way through.
Best Conditions for Batukaras
Needs a decent south to southwest swell to really line up
Works best on mid to high tide for longest, cleanest rides
East to northeast winds keep it clean — typical in dry season (May–Oct)
Most consistent from April to October, but can work year-round
Getting in and out at Batukaras
Super easy paddle-out from the beach. No reef, no rocks, no current to worry about. Great for groms, beginners, and anyone recovering from reef rash or a long trip through heavier zones. Just walk up the point and paddle around — the current will help line you up.
Getting to Batukaras
Fly into Jakarta or Yogyakarta, then take a car, bus, or shuttle to Pangandaran, and head west to Batukaras. The drive is long but scenic. Once you’re there, you’ll find affordable homestays, warungs, board rentals, and surf guides. It’s the most beginner-accessible surf village in West Java.
Hazards to Look Out For
Crowds on weekends and local holidays
Occasional drop-in chaos from soft-top schools
Nothing sharp or shallow, but still watch your rail on high tide sections
Not for performance shortboarding unless the swell is pushing head high+
