Overview of Location and Area
This is Kongs, the first section of the legendary G‑Land (Plengkung Beach) point inside G rajagan Bay, deep in the jungle of Alas Purwo National Park, East Java. At low tide, expect bowls, and on bigger west swells, it turns into a long fast running wall, sometimes for over a hundred meters.
About Kongs
This section is a swell magnet if it’s firing, Kongs grabs it early and holds the swell while the lower sections wait their turn. It’s a cleaner, more manageable blue wall than Money Trees or Speedies. A great warm up before dropping into the more critical sections. The paddle zone, known as the Key‑Hole, is a game-changer for getting out with minimal reef damage.
Best Conditions for Kongs
Swell: West swells are best; anything under 12 ft (Hawaiian) gets served here.
Wind: East trades nail it—clean faces nearly every morning of the dry season.
Tide: All tides work, but high tide makes paddling out much safer.
Season: Prime window runs April to October; this is when the slabs light up.
Getting In and Out
Paddle from the Key‑Hole. High tide makes the reef passage far more forgiving. At low can be more difficult. Reef booties can help to avoid nasty cuts and urchins.
Getting to Kongs
Most surfers access G‑Land via fast-boat charters from Bali—overnight rides land you right into the jungle surf camp circle. Jack’s, Bobby’s, and YoYo’s are classics, each camp indexes to specific peaks (Kongs, Speedies, etc.)
Hazards to Look Out For
Reef Risk: Sharp, shallow coral—this ain’t soft mush.
Power Swell: Step up only if you’re ready; the scrub gets real at bigger sizes.
Remote: Medical services are a bush jaunt away. Paddle smart and respect the reef.
