Overview of Location and Area
Speedies is the final section of the world-renowned G‑Land point in Grajagan Bay, East Java’s legendary surf factory deep in Alas Purwo National Park. It lives beyond Kongs, Money Trees, and Launching Pads, carving a section of reef so fast and critical it demands respect.
About Speedies
Speedies is G‑Land’s most unforgiving zone, a left-hand slab that barrels hard and fast. On a clean SW swell, it can morph into a perfect, near-flat-out tube that stays hollow for up to 200 meters. It’s where precision meets power, make the drop and keep momentum, else face a rapid reef collision.
Best Conditions for Speedies
Swell: A strong SW swell is essential to hold Speedies open and drive it through the reef.
Wind: East to southeast wind—especially in the dry season (April–October)—gives those glassy, unbroken walls.
Tide: It’s technically surfable on all tides, but high tide buys you depth and less reef exposure. Low tide raises the risk level significantly.
Season: Peak months are May through October, when swell and wind sync perfectly.
Getting In and Out at Speedies
Most surfers paddle through from Launching Pads or Money Trees, aiming for a clean entry and full awareness of shifting swells. Bring reef booties and local intel, it’s remote and the reef is relentless at low tide.
Getting to Speedies
Access is typically via surf camp charter boats from Bali to G‑Land. Jack’s, Bobby’s, and YoYo’s are the usual gatekeepers. From camp, it’s a big paddle, or occasionally a boat drop straight into Launching Pads for the shortest route in.
Hazards to Look Out For
Shallow reef: The take-off zone at Speedies lies on razor coral—mistakes cut deep.
Powerful barrels: Those walls don’t let up; any hesitation can wipe you out.
Isolation: This place is remote—if something goes wrong, you’re on your own for a while.
