The Lakey Peak area is one of the best surf destinations in the world. With a handful of consistent world-class waves within only a few kilometres of each other, it’s easy to understand why. Cheap accommodation right on the beach and only a few hours from Bima airport makes it a must-see destination on your Indonesian surf trip. A small drive out of town south can reward you with a few more waves, although they may not be as good as what you find in town, cobblestones left & right and Nunga Doros can offer some respite from the crowd in the early mornings.

About Cobblestones Left

Although not as quality as Lakey Peak, Lakey Pipe and Periscopes Cobblestones Left & Right offer some really good, fun waves.

The left is found in front of the headland to the south breaking over coral and boulders. It can offer 80m+ walls offering various sections from hackable walls to barrel sections depending on the tide, angle and size. The trade winds blow this wave out so best to check it out early in the morning or shoulder season.

Best Conditions for Cobblestones Left

Cobblestones Left won’t break well at low tide, so it’s best to wait for mid-high tides in the early morning to check it out. It starts breaking at around head high and can handle up to 1.5 overhead. E winds are best, but the trades normally blow with more south, so it’s best to be here early morning before the wind.

Getting in and out at Cobblestones Left

You can jump off the bould at the south side of the point and time it between the sets. This is a higher risk than paddling around the reef from inside the bay, which is the safer, easier option.

Coming in, it is best to ride the wave to the end and come in at the end of the wave, in the bay where you can find a bit of sand and avoid the slippery boulders.

Getting to Cobbles Stones Left

From Lakey Peak make your way south down the main road until you see a sign saying COBOELSTAN, make your way down the bumpy road to the beach.
