Unlike its heavier neighbours (Lakey Peak, Lakey Pipe), Cobblestones offers a more mellow and cruisy option — perfect for intermediate surfers or those looking for a break from the high-performance peaks.

About Cobblestones Right

Cobblestones Right is a fun, mellow right-hand reef break that peels over a combination of reef and sand bottom. It’s a user-friendly wave, ideal for flowy carves and playful lines rather than barrels. The wave starts with a soft roll-in, then walls up for open-face turns before tapering off into the deeper channel. On a good swell, it can hold size and provide long, rippable walls.

Best Conditions for Cobblestones Right

Works best on a south to southwest swell.
Prefers mid to high tide to avoid getting too shallow or shutting down.
Needs easterly to northeasterly winds for clean faces.
Can be surfed in smaller swell but shows best character with shoulder to overhead waves.

Getting in and out at Cobblestones Right

Access is simple:

A short ride south of Lakey Pipe, or
A quick boat ride (5–10 minutes) from Lakey Peak.
The reef is more forgiving than other nearby breaks, but caution is still advised on lower tides. Paddle entry is straightforward from the beach side.

Getting to Cobblestones Right

Fly into Bima Airport (Sumbawa), then drive or transfer by car/bike to Lakey Peak area (~2–3 hours). Once based at Lakey, Cobblestones Right is within walking or boating distance. Local boatmen often offer cheap rides to Cobblestones if conditions are good.

Hazards to Look Out for at Cobblestones Right

Reef cuts on lower tides (though it’s more forgiving than Lakey Pipe).
Occasional currents sweeping through the bay.
Watch for surgey days with south wind chop — can ruin the wave’s shape.
Minimal crowds but always respect local etiquette.
