Must know: You need to take off behind the peak to get barrelled.
Krui is the main town in the area, and the best place to get supplies, cash, and other souvenirs. The market in the center of town is a must see, and the Martabak Coklat is a great after surf sweet treat. The Peak is a super fun wave!

About The Peak

The Peak, found in front of Sunset Beach Losmen, is a perfectly shaped triangular peak that stands up on shallow coral shelf and peel left and right into the channels. The right is the prefered wave here offering the best oppurtunity to get barrelled, whereas the left can be a little more mellow, but great for a few turns.
The swell stands up into a defined peak as it approaches the reef, and you can usually see the sets coming.

When surfing the right it is best to back door the peak, stay high and set your line heading for the channel. Trying to take off on the peak almost always leaves you going over the falls, or landing at the bottom, perfermoing a bottom turn and missing out on the best part of the wave. If its not barreling, it can be a fun wave, but its only short so its really all about the barrel.

When surfing the left, you will find that trying to backdoor the peak is not as easy and you are best taking off on the shoulder.
It prefers the mid tide as the higher tides can stop it from barreling and the low tides can get shallow and it loses its form.

This wave can be super fun, but people can actually get bored of it as its basically and stand up get covered pull out kind of wave.

Can get a crowd from the local surf camps.

Best Conditions for The Peak

The Peak can break from shoulder high to 1.5 overhead but prefers it over head high to barrel, with swell from the S – W, as with all spots in the Krui bay it rarely gets big. It is best on the mid tide as the high tides stops it from barrelling and the low tide gets too shallow, neap tides are best. It is offshore in the dry season SE trade winds.

Getting in and out at The Peak

Its an easy paddle around the reef from the beach here to make your way out to the peak. Coming in you can just straighten out over the reef on the higher tides, or on a lower tide paddle your way back in through either channel.

Getting to The Peak

Make your way west from Krui, along the road that runs along the coastline for around 1.5k. You will find the peak directly in front of Sunset Beach Losmen. Get permission from the hotel staff before parking there.

Hazards to look out for at The Peak

When the peak is crowded, there can be confusion about who is going left and who is going right, be sure to communicate which way you are going to avoid a collision!
When coming out of the barrel on the right the reef can be shallow, so be careful.
Petty theft does happen here so lock up your belongings, or leave then at the hotel.
