About Tanjung Sari

Tanjung Sari can offer spinning right-handers running down a curved reef, into a well-defined channel, a few hundred meters offshore.

This wave really needs a large S-SW swell to show its true colours, but when one aligns with low tides and wet season north westerly offshore winds its well worth the effort. The wave peaks up out the back and can spin off perfectly for up to 200m offering super fast barrel sections over very shallow coral reef. The higher the tide, the safer the wave becomes but the wave can become less makeable and sectioned.

On smaller days with high tides, it can be a great wave for intermediates to hone their skills on the coral reef away from the crowds.

On the other side of the channel is a left-hander that breaks back towards Tanjung Sari. This left can be all time on its day, but is fickle and the chances of hitting the reef here on larger days are high, so the crowd stays thin. On smaller days, it can offer a fun little wave with a small barrel section on take off, and a short workable wall.

Best Conditions for Tanjung Sari

Tanjung Sari needs a significant sized swell to really turn on. It will break from shoulder high to 1.5x over head but it doesn’t often get this big. It can be surfed all tides and is offshore in SW – W winds.

Getting in and out at Tanjung Sari

There is a well defined channel here that makes the paddle out very easy. Coming in it is best to use the channel on the lower tides, but on higher tides when there is enough water over the reef you can just ride in, then paddle the channel.

Getting to Tanjung Sari

Access the wave by driving down Jalan Pantai Sindu and parking at the end of the road, parking can be hard to find as this is a popular beach with Sanur tourists, and locals alike.

Hazards to look out for at Tanjung Sari

beware of the reef when low tide.

This reef is a long way from shore so be sure to leave some fuel in the tank for the paddle back!
