About Sri Lanka

The theme of quality right-handers continues along the east coast. Sri Lanka, although not so consistent, can offer up quality barrels breaking over a coral Reef.

A great wave on its day, it needs a very large S – SW swell to wrap around the Bukit peninsula and refract onto the reef. When it does break, it offers a fast, hollow, open barrel. You will need to be quick to your feet to backdoor the first section, but those who have the skill will be rewarded.

Best Conditions for Sri Lanka

This wave is offshore in SW – NW winds, making it an off season wave, which magnifies the inconsistency as less large swells happen this time off year. It breaks only on the higher tides.

Getting in and out at Sri Lanka

Access to the wave is an easy paddle out through the channel, beware of currents on the outgoing tide. If you’re cheeky you might be able to rinse of in the club med pool!

Getting to Sri Lanka

You will find it by following the small gang way just North of Club med, towards the beach. You can follow this path all the way around the front of Club Med. Sri Lanka breaks on the reef directly in front of the hotel.

Hazards to look out for at Sri Lanka

The reef here is sharp and can get shallow on the low tides.
