Outside Left Gerupuk is one of the lesser-known waves in the Gerupuk Bay system on the southern coast of Lombok. It’s tucked just outside the main bay and offers a clean left-hand wall that draws fewer crowds than its more famous right-hand neighbors.

About Outside Left Gerupuk

This wave doesn’t always break, but when it does, it can be super fun. A reliable left-hand reef break, it offers a mellow but rippable wall that’s great for turns and occasionally hollow sections on the right swell. Compared to other Gerupuk breaks, it’s more under the radar and doesn’t get mobbed, making it a great call when Inside or Outside Right are packed.

Getting in and out at Outside Left Gerupuk

Only accessible by boat from Gerupuk Village, like most of the breaks in the area. The wave sits a bit further out than Inside Gerupuk but closer than Ekas, so it’s a short boat ride. Paddle-out is straightforward with a channel, but be cautious at lower tides — it’s reefy underfoot.

Getting to Outside Left Gerupuk

Drive or ride east from Kuta Lombok (approx. 20 minutes) to Gerupuk Village, then hire a local boat to take you out. Most surf camps and guides in the area include boat transport in their packages.

Sharp reef — be mindful on entry/exit
Can be inconsistent — doesn’t break as often as the rights
Boat traffic — always watch for surf charter pickups
