About Outside Gerupuk

Outside Gerupuk is a powerful right-hand reef break that comes alive during larger swells. The wave features a steep takeoff, leading into fast, hollow sections that can offer barrel opportunities. Given its intensity and the presence of a sharp reef bottom, this spot is best suited for intermediate to advanced surfers who are comfortable navigating challenging conditions.

Getting in and out at Outside Gerupuk

Access to Outside Gerupuk is exclusively by boat, typically arranged from the village of Gerupuk. The boat ride offers a convenient drop-off near the lineup. Surfers should be cautious of the sharp reef, especially during lower tides, and be aware of strong currents that can be present during larger swells. It’s advisable to wear reef booties for protection.

Getting to Outside Gerupuk

From Kuta Lombok, travel eastward for approximately 7 km to reach Gerupuk Village. Once there, local boat operators are available to transport surfers to the various breaks within the bay, including Outside Gerupuk. The boat ride to the break is relatively short and provides direct access to the lineup.

Hazards to Look Out For at Outside Gerupuk

Sharp reef: Particularly hazardous during low tide.
Strong currents: Can be present, especially during larger swells.
Crowds: While not as crowded as some other spots, it can still draw a number of surfers during peak seasons.
