Overview of Location and Area

Lampuuk Beach sits about 30 minutes from Banda Aceh. Postcard white sand, mellow waves, and a chilled local vibe. This is one of the few spots in Aceh where you’ll see families swimming and maybe a couple of local bodyboarders. The bay faces slightly west, picking up swell when it wraps in. It’s not a destination wave, but it’s consistent enough for a session, especially if you’re waiting for the bigger islands to turn on.

About Lampuuk

Sand-bottom peaks break close to shore with lefts and rights, depending on sandbar shifts. On smaller days, it’s ideal for beginners or longboarders. When a pulse comes through, it throws up workable shoulders for shortboard turns — though it rarely gets hollow or heavy. The wave lacks power, but makes up for it with shape and consistency during swell windows.

It’s a good place to loosen up, surf solo, or paddle out with groms. Plus, it’s easy to access and safer than the reef setups around Pulau Aceh.

Best Conditions for Lampuuk

West to SW swell, 2–6 ft, preferably with some period (10s+).
Mid to high tide gives better sandbar shape and reduces closeouts.
Best winds: Light E–NE, often glassy early in the day.
Works during both monsoon seasons, but best March–May and Sept–Nov for windows of combo swell and light wind.

Getting in and out at Lampuuk

Super easy. Park at the warungs, walk straight to the beach, paddle out. No reef, no current, and plenty of space to pick your own peak. The only real hazard is the shorey on bigger days — it can get punchy at high tide, but otherwise this place is soft and user-friendly.

Getting to Lampuuk

Fly into Banda Aceh, and it’s 25–30 minutes west by scooter or car. Roads are paved and smooth. Most surfers stay in Lhoknga, but Lampuuk is a quick detour or day trip. There are basic beach cafés and a few low-key homestays if you want to post up.

Hazards to look out for at Lampuuk

Watch for shore dump on bigger days.
Local swimmers and beachgoers — keep distance.
It’s a family-friendly zone in a conservative Muslim area — respect the culture: shirt on, no beers at the beach.
Not a rescue-ready beach, but generally low risk.
