Old mans and Batu Bolong are the 2 reefs here and they sit side by side. Both reefs are a great place to hone your skills as developing surfer as you move onto riding unbroken waves.

There are some great places to eat and hang out here, and it holds a fair bit of a party scene after dark.

About Batu Bolong

Batu Bolong offers left and right peaks that can peel for over 100m over the generously covered reef. The large playing field spreads the crowd out across this approachable line up. Batu Bolong generally has softer waves that liven up a little on the lower tides.

The wave is pretty mellow by local standards and attracts a lot of longboarders who are looking to cruise on the long, lazy walls.

Crowds are a major factor here, with a large crew of surfers from all different abilities.

Best Conditions for Batu Bolong

The early morning is best when it’s still glassy, or immediately after a storm has rolled through before the wind picks up again. Batu bolong will break from waist high to 15x over head, on all tides and all swell directions.

Getting in and out at Batu Bolong

Access Batu Bolong by paddling out in the channel either to the north or south of the reef. When the swell is up the northern channel is the best way to get in and out of the wave.

Getting to Batu Bolong

Found in front of The Lawn and Old Man’s restaurant and Bar.

You can park anywhere along the road here, or in the large car park in front of Old Man’s Restaurant (paid parking).

Hazards to look out for at Batu Bolong

A relatively safe place to surf when conditions are small, be aware of other surfers as there are a lot of beginners surfing here. Be patient as this is one of the better places to hone your surfing skills.
