Banana Island, or Pulau Pisang is found about 1.5km off the mainland north of Krui. You can see the island, and the right hander on the way north to Jenny’s and Jimmies. Banana Island is the definition of paradise, with a pristine white sand beach on the protected side of the island with crystal clear, azure blue water great for hanging out on the beach and a left and a right wrapping around either side. It can be a great day out, and is best to start early to make the most of your day on the island.

About Bannana Island Right

Banana Island right is a wave magnet reef that can through up long lined up walls, or heavy barreling slabs, depending on its mood. When driving past in the boat, it can look like perfect spinning barrels running down the reef but closer inspection can sometimes show it dropping 80m wide sections that would out run most surfers. When conditions do come together it can light up a world class wave, although fickle at best.

On higher tides try the inside corner where the wave refracts into the channel for the best barrels, or when it is lining up you can take of right up near the headland inside the 2 rock that sit in the channel. This wave can be really shallow!

Getting in and out at Bannana Island Right

Typically you will be dropped of by boat here, so a simple jump and paddle is all that is needed.
Coming in you can make your way across the reef on the higher tides, or paddle in at the end of the wave in the channel. If paddling from shore it is best to paddle out in the channel to the east and paddle around the reef.

Getting to Bannana Island Right

Banana Island is boat access only. It is best to organise a boat in Krui, your accomodation should be able to put you the right direction to someone who can get you over there. Typically you will see the rights as the boat approaches the island, but if making your way from the beach turn left and follow the street along the beach until the end.

Hazards to look out for at Bannana Island Right

Sharp, shallow reef is a hazard when surfing here. If something goes wrong you are a while away from any medical help so take care. Be careful when getting off and on the boat on the island as there is no usable jetty and the boats are landed on the steep beach, and the surging swells can push the boat around without notice. best to listen to the captain when getting off and on.

Krui Left

Krui left is perfect little left hand reef that is super fun. It doesn’t really get big, but is a great barrel when it does.
