Looking for some where to longboard in Bali?
Indonesia typically has a reputation for barrelling waves breaking over coral reef platforms, but actually there are some great places to pull out the 9ft and spend some time on the nose! Batu Karas, in Central Java offers some great sand bottom point breaks that are perfect for riding a long board and Bali has some perfect spots too!
West Coast

The Canggu areas host a few waves that are suited to long boarding. Old mans has a great a frame peak that peels nicely both ways, that is prefect for long boarding on smaller days. Batu Bolong right next door to Old Mans has a great opportunity to put the toes on the nose, but both of these spots are very crowded so getting waves can be quite difficult. For the more adventurous, make your way up the western coast to Balian or Medewi. Both of these waves are long and slopey, breaking over smooth boulder bottoms, for over 100m. Both of these spots are a fair drive away form the tourism centres of Kuta and Canggu, but the extra effort to get there can be rewarding with less people in the line up. It is worth hanging out here for a while if you are an avid long boarder.
Bukit Peninsula
The waves on the Bukit Peninsula are more for performance style shortboards, but there are a few exceptions. On smaller days a lot of the reefs can offer great waves for long boarding, but you will still have to compete with a wave hungry crowd of short boarders. Padang-Padang Rights offers a great wave for long boarding as it peaks up and peels slowly into a defined channel.
East Coast
The east coast doesn’t have many great options for long boarding. Although the reefs around Sanur, like Tanjung Sari, can offer great waves when the swell is small, in particular Hyatt Reef. Hyatt reef is situated a fair way offshore and it is best to get a boat.
